Rug hooking technique, outdoor inspiration
Plein Air Hooking Artists provides a platform for hooked works created in the plein air tradition to be shown in one setting, promotes rug hooking as an art form, and encourages the study of light, color and nature.
We aim to stretch our talents by working on location and facing the challenges brought with it. Hooking artists cannot dye materials on site, they must work with the colors they have with them on location. Artists must also plan works that can be completed in the limited time of an outdoor session, working against the time-consuming nature of rug hooking.
Many of us work in other genres within the rug hooking world. Plein-air hooking gives us a chance to experience and show our love of the outdoors in addition to pursuing our studio work.
